Friends & Foes: The Little Mute Girl

One night, while gathered around the camp fire, off in the distance the players spot a little girl walking towards them.

The girl says nothing to them, but walks up to the fire and kneels down to warm her hands. She sits there for a few minutes, taking respite from the cold night, before leaving.

The little girl is mute, so can not say anything, and doesn’t know how to read or write either. She otherwise behaves normally and reacts as you would expect her to depending on what the players do.

There’s literally nothing unusual about the girl, except for her muteness. She was out playing, lost track of the time, and is just now finding her way back home. The only point of this encounter is to mess with your players’ heads.

  2. Thank you very much! :) I’m honored that you’re, uh, honored.

  3. Eep, I just realized I titled it deaf girl instead of mute girl! Fixed that. How embarassing.

  4. That is pretty classic. I’m sure to use this somewhere in one of my campaigns!
