Random Encounters: Eight

IMPORTANT NOTE: I’m taking next week off to give me time to catch up in school and also launch a new campaign. Normal posting will resume on March 3rd.

You may have noticed that I’ve done some more category shifting. I’ve gotten rid of Hostile Hostels, folding it into the broader Peculiar Places, and I’ve created a new category called Friends & Foes for posts about NPCs and organizations.

I’ve also changed the header so that I’m now using art which is in the public domain. No one complained about my old header, but I always felt bad that I was breaking the law by using it.

Here’s some stats I’ve written up for Kiln-born and dryads, with some help from the friendly folks at the Great White Games forums:

General Kiln-Born traits All Kiln-Born possess these traits.
(-1): Cannot heal naturally or by magic; must be repaired
(+1): Immune to all diseases and poisons

Fire Kiln-Born
(-2): -1 toughness
(+2): Immolate
(+0): Immune to fire, but must make a vigor roll or be shaken each round while in contact with water (-2 for partial submersion, -4 for complete submersion)
(+1): d6 intimidation (I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that by their nature these dudes are especially intimidating, even when they’re not trying to be).
(+1): 8 pace (largely because I don’t know what else to spend the last +1 on, and in my mind at least fire seems like a “quick” element.

Water Kiln-Born
(-2): -1 Toughness
(+2): +1 parry
(+1): Aquatic
(+1): Pace 8

Air Kiln-Born
(-2): -1 Toughness
(+2): Pace 10
(+2): d6 in Agility

Earth Kiln-Born
(+2): +2 armor
(-1): Pace 4
(+1): Natural weapons (str+d4)
(-2): -1 parry
(+2): d6 strength

Dryad
(-1): Outsider hindrance (unlike the Kiln-Born, many people have never even heard of a Dryad).
(+0): Photosynthesis. Dryads do not need to eat or drink, but they do require regular sunlight or they begin to suffer effects similar to starvation.
(+2): Tree camouflage. A dryad can take the form of any tree indigenous to the local area.
(+1): d6 in Survival

  1. The category changes seem appropriate.

You deserve a break! You’ve done a great job posting interesting, creative, and original encounter ideas on a daily basis. Thanks!

  2. Thank you for the kind words, though I feel they’re unwarranted…

Also, the wavatar generated for you is awesome.

  3. I would like to see some 4.0 stats for the the dryad. Good job with the dryad post btw.
