There Goes the Neighborhood
The PCs are hired by some upper-class merchants to get rid of a neighbor of theirs who they’ve just learned is a witch, and responsible for a string of disappearances stretching back generations. She’s lived in the house for a long time, longer even than most of the people hiring the PCs, and they claim that every couple years a child or loved one will disappear.
The house in question is a large, but dilapidated, mansion. The lady living there keeps a low profile and makes it a point to conceal her true identity, for she’s actually a medusa. She is not, however, responsible for the disappearances. In fact, there are no disappearances. The merchants have hired the PCs to get rid of her not for fear for their safety, but because her poorly-kept house is keeping the property values down.

Now this is taking inspiration from current events! Turning the downturn in the housing market into a game hook. Classic!
