A young adventurer-to-be approaches a PC to seek guidance, blessing, etc.

An acolyte seeks out a PC priest, paladin or cleric. The acolyte desires for the PC to send him on a quest to gain their deity’s favor. An apprentice wizard asks the party arcanist for advice on spells to study or how to identify quality reagents. A plucky thief seeks advice on sneaking.

Regardless, the petitioner is not interested in becoming a sidekick. While he might be willing to follow the PC around for a short while, he’s really just looking for some help in kick-starting his own adventuring career.
