It was interesting, kind of a skill-challenge feel to it. The elf won largely due to unfailingly-good rolls. I'd had the fighter picked for winning, since he was trained in both athletics and endurance, but he kept rolling very poorly for his athletics and just couldn't keep up, then started pushing himself too early. You should make an adventure path about D&D olympics.
