Update on The Open Archive
First thing’s first.
The forums are up and the wiki is up. For the time being, neither are particularly pretty nor organized, but that will change. I’ve put up one of my creations, the level 20 solo Sapphire Covenant Master, as an example.
Also, we need a logo for The Open Archive! Something to brand it. If you’ve got any ideas or artistic talents, please submit something!
Now, a few other things:
We’re using the Creative Commons Attribution Share-alike license. Both commercial and non-commercial reuse it allowed. We’ll also be using the GSL if at all possible.
The Open Archive is going to be strictly 4th edition. Sorry to the 3rd edition adherents, but it’s just not feasible. If nothing else, it’s impossible to have the same project under both the OGL and GSL.

Well, that lets me out then. Sorry, but the GSL is the reason I won’t play 4e. That and things like this: http://d20.jonnydigital.com/2008/10/dungeons-dragons-writers-given-non-compete-clauses
Awesome!
I’m going to post the monster I made in a moment.
You should take a look at this post: http://timsworld.nfshost.com/tutorial-show-dd-icon-font-on-page-using-flir/
to see how I got your D&D Icon Font to show up on my site.

Has anyone ever challenged the GSL or the original d20 license in court? I have a number of practicing lawyer gamer buddies who are saying that, if challenged in court, those licenses would not hold water for most 3rd party publications. I’m thinking specifically of publications like the one being proposed here and the RPG Bloggers Anthology – the entire ruleset can be covered under a “fair-use” umbrella… meh.

Well, my opinion is this: Wizards could have just as easily made the system closed, like TSR used to do, and like many current publishers still do. They didn’t, so rather than try to find loopholes and fight them, I’m just grateful that they’ve given their blessing at all and I think that if you’re going to use the GSL you should follow the spirit of it as much as the letter.
Incidentally, before anyone calls me a hypocrite, I’ll point out that I don’t use the GSL for my software and probably wouldn’t be able to. In that case, I’m relying fully on WotC’s good graces to not be shut down.
Just re-reading all of that OGL stuff makes me quiver in fear… Heck, even your stuff is technically illegal unless you have a license.
I’m out, not permanently, but just for now.
Count me in once I set my mind out of “Hurrrr” and “Durrrr” mode and figure out some wiki skills so things I put up there won’t look abominable.
Wyatt’s last blog post..D&DMech Fantasy (Well, not yet, really.)
Are we planning on publishing this for commercial sales? I don’t think that this would violate the GSL or anything because we’re not making money, but I haven’t read it or anything. Correct me if I’m wrong.
Hey um… I like the idea of a monster wiki but if you could make a section of the wiki devoted to a list of powers as well as a small description or something that would be awesome cause it can sometimes be hard coming up with balanced powers and a list for us to read through and sort out as opposed to finding the specific monster with a specific power would be amazing for the occasional idea-generating. Thanks
How does one go about adding a monster to the wiki? I have an account now. I have MM 3.1, so I have the info I need to paste in there, but where o where do I paste?
Thanks for helping the less savvy!
Nevermind. I figured it out. Tres cool! I have uploaded one eyewing, I will play with Tactics and better formatting soon. Thanks again Asmor.
NP, thanks for submitting!
